Mjawards finalist emailsig2023 partnershipsBolton’s Cost of Living Partnership has been shortlisted for the MJ Awards 2023, which recognises the outstanding work of local authorities.

The team is a finalist in the “Innovation in Partnerships” category with the winner set to be announced at a ceremony in London on June 23.

Bolton Council has championed the local Cost of Living Partnership which is made up of more than 30 different companies, charities and voluntary organisations.

They work together to deliver essential advice and support to people struggling with high energy prices, accessing food, dealing with debts and general finances.

Regular meetings have taken place over the last year for the partnership to plan, coordinate and deliver Bolton’s response to the cost of living crisis.

The innovative approach has resulted in a comprehensive package of support services for local residents.

This includes food parcels, supermarket vouchers, energy payments, essential household items, travel costs, advice on cooking on a budget, debt and legal advice and mental wellbeing support.

Over recent months, over 15,000 families in Bolton have been supported with food, particularly during school holidays.

A further £855,000 of household essentials and food has also been distributed via Bolton’s Fund.

A network of Warm Welcome centres has been created across the borough to help people seek refuge from the cold, grab a hot drink, snacks, meet others, join in fun activities and get expert advice.

A number of cost of living drop-in advice sessions were also provided across the town, attracting over 700 residents seeking guidance from many different organisations.

Sue Johnson, Chief Executive of Bolton Council said:

“Bolton is lucky to have so many outstanding charities and institutions that make initiatives like the Cost of Living Partnership possible.

“The MJ Awards are very prestigious and making it to the final is testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with the partnership.

“This recognition is for the whole Bolton community which has pulled together to support those struggling with the rising cost of living.”
