Residents will get an extra helping hand when it comes to getting rid of large items, thanks to Bolton Council’s improved bulky waste collection service.

Bulky Bob's

As part of a longstanding service, householders have been able to arrange for the council to take five large items of furniture away for a £30 charge.

But now, thanks to a new partnership between Bolton Council and the furniture reuse company Bulky Bob’s, fridges and freezers can also be included among the five items at no extra cost.

Also, residents booking a bulky waste collection are now able to have any unwanted small electrical items, such as kettles and hairdryers, removed free of charge.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Cllr Nick Peel, said: “We urge everyone to dispose of their large items as safely and sustainably as possible, but we recognise not everyone can get to the tip easily.

“This new service makes it even easier and more convenient to have bulky items like fridges removed from your home at a reasonable cost.

“If you only have a couple of items, why not get together with your neighbours to organise a joint collection and share the cost?”

Mick Hart of Bulky Bobs added: “Our aim is to maximise the amount of bulky waste that can be recycled or reused and as result, reduce the overall amount sent to landfill.

“To get the best out of your unwanted items, we can collect them from inside your home between 8:30am and 5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“All you need to do is make sure we can safely get to the items and that access is clear.”

Cllr Peel added: “Anyone looking to get rid of any sort of waste should contact the council or use another licensed carrier.

“That way, you can be assured your items will be disposed of properly and not fly-tipped in our streets and public spaces.”
