A resident has been fined £770 after flytipping 15 bin bags in a back street.

Mario Papai was prosecuted by Bolton Council after an enforcement officer spotted the waste piled up at the back of Mornington Road.

After discovering the bags, the officer knocked on the front door of Mr Papai and he admitted dumping them.

The 19-year-old was issued with a fixed penalty fine but failed to pay. The case was brought before the magistrates’ court on July 24, and the matter was proved in Mr Papai’s absence.

He was fined £770, court costs of £339 and a £77 surcharge.

Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Cllr Nick Peel, said: “There is simply no excuse for dumping rubbish in this way.

“We are pleased with this substantial fine and we will continue to pursue those who commit envirocrimes which blight our neighbourhoods.

“We hope it will also act as a deterrent to others.”
