Bolton Central Library and all nine community libraries across the borough will continue to offer essential services throughout lockdown.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the government has introduced a wide range of additional measures which will remain in place until at least December 2.

Following the agreement of new government regulations, the council has confirmed libraries will remain open to the public for order and collect services.

Customers can now reserve any lending item for collection at any library via the catalogue: https://bolton.spydus.co.uk/

A notification will be sent when the items are available to pick up. They will be held for two weeks and can be collected at any time during library opening hours. Opening hours vary, please check www.bolton.gov.uk/libraries for further details.

Computers will be available for critical usage only such as job applications, and benefit claims, and must be pre-booked. To book please call 01204 332853 and advise of reason for use.

School books delivery and the Home Library service will also continue for residents who are unable to leave their homes.

Cllr Hilary Fairclough, Executive Cabinet Member with responsibility for libraries, said: “We all know what a vital service our local libraries provide to the community, and it is good news that library users can still collect books and access computers.

“This is important to a lot of people and we are pleased that the government has allowed these services to continue.

“All the relevant safety measures are in place, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for book browsing when it is safe to do so.”

As not all library users will be able to visit libraries, all fines have been removed and this will continue until further notice.

A wide range of free eBooks, eAudio books and eMagazines continue to be available on the library service website.

The council has also confirmed that Bolton Museum, Aquarium, Archives, Hall i’th’ Wood and Smithills Hall will be closed in accordance with lockdown rules.
