As Bolton’s massive weekend of sport arrives this June, residents are advised to plan ahead to avoid disruption.
The IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton weekend returns from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7 for another blockbuster weekend.
Over the course of three days, there will be thousands of people taking part across three different events.
Due to these events, temporary road closures are required to ensure the safety of residents, competitors and spectators.
Road closures are set to be the same as 2025 and will be in place around the town centre for Night Run Bolton on Friday, June 5, and IRONKIDS Bolton on Saturday, June 6.
Temporary road closures for IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton on Sunday, June 7 will extend from Pennington Flash to Bolton, where they will mainly affect Chorley New Road and the town centre.
The town centre and Middlebrook retail park will be open as normal all weekend.
Anyone driving into the town centre is advised to park at one of the car parks, which will be open as normal.
Anyone heading to Middlebrook retail park from Bolton is advised to use Wigan Road (A676 / A58) to Manchester Road / Chorley Road (A6) and then use De Havilland Way (A6027).
A spokesperson for Bolton Council, said:
“It’s always a privilege to host this major weekend of sport in Bolton as it brings together our fantastic community for three incredible events.”
“Over the course of weekend thousands of people will be taking part with even more spectators expected to cheer the athletes on.”
“Facilitating events of this scale is not easy and it is essential we put the health and safety of the participants and spectators as a priority.”
“To ensure this requirement is met, temporary road closures will be put in place across the town, so we strongly urge residents and visitors to plan their trips with this in mind.”
More information on the course and diversions to avoid road closures, including maps and timings, can be found on the IRONMAN website.
A road access hotline for further information is available six weeks prior to the events and throughout the race weekend by calling 03330 11 66 00.
