Bolton Council will issue more than half a million pounds in supermarket vouchers this week to help families struggling with the extra cost of the Easter school holidays.

Ahead of the break, families will receive £40 of vouchers per child for all school-aged children who would normally qualify for free school meals.

Under 5’s and those aged 16 to 19 will also receive vouchers provided they meet the relevant eligibility criteria.

A total of 14,905 vouchers will be issued this week ahead of the start of the Easter Holidays next month.

Funding for the scheme comes from the government’s Household Support Fund.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Anne Galloway, said:

“The rising cost of living is impacting us all and it is a particularly challenging time for families worried about extra costs during the school holidays.

“We have set aside £596,200 from a government grant to help households that might otherwise struggle with the extra cost of food and childcare during the two-week break.

“We aim to give every child in Bolton the best possible start in life and this initiative will support thousands of families across the borough.”
