Communities across Bolton can celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style after the council confirmed it will waive road closure fees for neighbourhood street parties.

Celebrations will take place across the country over an extended Bank Holiday weekend from June 2-5, and Bolton residents are urged to get involved to help mark the historic occasion.

It normally costs £1,094 to close a road for an event, but this charge will not apply during the four-day weekend and the council will also cover the cost of signs and barriers.

Bolton Council’s Events Team has put together a guide for holding safe events and further information is available on the government website.

All events should comply with the latest safety and public health advice and residents are asked that all parties finish by 10pm.

The deadline for street closure applications is Friday, April 29 and the relevant forms are available on the Bolton Council website.

As part of the weekend of celebrations, The Big Jubilee Lunch will be held on Sunday June 5 as an opportunity for people to get together and watch the Platinum Pageant on television.

The council will be shortly confirming details for a programme of special events to be held in the town centre across the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.

Bolton Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Hilary Fairclough, said:

“Her Majesty the Queen will be the first British monarch to mark 70 years of service, so it is only right that we go that extra mile to commemorate this historic event.

“This country has a long tradition of jubilee street parties, and we are delighted to confirm that in Bolton it will be easier than ever to celebrate with your neighbours.

“It will be wonderful to see gatherings right across the borough and we will soon be announcing our exciting plans for special events in the town centre.”
