Residents and businesses have until Sunday to have their say on travel across Bolton.
There have been modifications to some cycle lanes in Bolton on some key corridors which were identified through the successful #SafeStreetsSaveLives public consultation. The schemes have been funded through Greater Manchester’s allocation of £19m from the Government’s Active Travel Fund.
These schemes were introduced as a temporary measure to encourage people to engage in active travel especially with the safe distancing rules in the current pandemic.
Bolton Council has reopened the conversation to give residents and businesses the opportunity to comment on a series of recently installed and proposed cycling and walking improvement schemes.
Active Travel Fund Schemes
Over the next six months, Bolton Council is looking to implement three schemes on the following corridors:
- A666 Bolton Road / Manchester Road (Farnworth Town Centre to Salford Boundary);
- B6536 / A575 Manchester Road / A6053 Bolton Road / Market Street (Bolton Town Centre to Farnworth Town Centre); and
- A58 Moss Bank Way (Doffcocker to Astley Bridge).
The proposed schemes include the enhancement of existing cycle lanes through road space reallocation and the provision of reflective bollards to provide light separation from the main vehicle flow.
It is envisaged that the use of light separation, whilst offering the opportunity to modify the schemes in the short term, will be a permanent measure or until replaced with a fully segregated scheme once the routes are established.

The closing date for comments is Sunday 2 May 2021.
Following the consultation, the council will consider the feedback received to refine the schemes and best meet the needs of users.
