We clean adopted roads and paths on a fixed schedule. This can be affected by seasonal factors such as leaf fall, snow, floods and by parked vehicles which prevent kerbside and pavement sweeping.
When entering an area, teams must prioritise fly tipping and heavily littered areas and so all streets may not be cleaned or mechanically swept on each visit.
We have no capacity to operate outside this schedule unless there is an immediate health or safety risk associated with accumulations of litter.
What will we do?
- Clean Bolton, Farnworth, Horwich and Westhoughton town centres daily, including weekends. Other town centres will receive a daily clean Monday-Friday.
- We aim to carry out an estimated street cleansing service on a five weekly schedule and regular area cleans on all other council adopted roads and paths.
- Remove accumulations of rubbish from council land.
- We aim to respond to hazardous street clean requests (eg, broken glass in the highway) and traffic incident clean up requests on council adopted streets within 24 hours.
- Remove dead animals (nothing smaller than a cat) from council land and council adopted streets. Visit Dead animal removal – Bolton Council for more information.
- Empty council litter bins on an agreed schedule. Visit Litter bins – Bolton Council for more information.
- Help with your locally organised clean-ups. Visit Volunteer litter picking – Bolton Council for more information.
