Many households are entitled to a fortnightly 240L green bin collection service, in accordance with the Council's Waste and Recycling Policies. The extra green bin collection service is a new offer from June 2025 and applies to all eligible households that wish to pay for a second (or more) green bin for collection of garden waste on a fortnightly basis.

The extra green bin collection service will run from June 2025 until the end of March 2026 and includes up to 22 collections. The collection schedule is the same as your normal bin collection schedule.

In recent years, feedback from some residents suggests there isn't enough space in the green bin, particularly for those residents who enjoy gardening at home. This new service allows residents to enjoy more of what they love doing, and saves them some messy trips to the household waste and recycling site.

The cost of this service is as follows:

  • £35 set up fee (chargeable in the first subscription year only)
  • £37.50 subscription fee (up to 31 March 2026)

Extra green bin subscription
 

Types of waste that are allowed in the bin are as follows. These items should be loose (not bagged): 

  • Flowers and plants
  • Leaves from the garden
  • Grass cuttings and hedge clippings
  • Twigs and small branches
  • Hay and straw pet bedding (eg rabbits and guinea pigs)

Types of waste that are not allowed in the bin are items such as: 

  • Food waste
  • Liquids – milk, cooking oils, etc 
  • Plastic bags
  • Plastic food packaging
  • Glass
  • Rubble
  • Turf and ash
  • Soil and stone
  • Dog and cat faeces
  • Cat litter 

In addition to the items listed, we will not empty green bins that contain rubbish and recycling meant for other bin types.
