Joint and several liability
There can be more than one person named on a bill; this is called joint and several liability.
You can be jointly liable if you:
- have the same legal interest in the property eg joint owners, joint tenants, or
- you are partners
You cannot be jointly liable if one of you is a student or severely mentally impaired.
