Governors provide a voluntary role in a school, make key decisions and make sure policies and procedures are in place to support positive outcomes for all children.

How to become a governor

How to become a School Governor or Academy Trustee

The role of a school governor or academy trustee is a very rewarding experience and there are currently vacancies within the Bolton borough.

Volunteering to become a school governor is a great way to contribute to your local community and improve the lives of local children. You do not need to be a parent or have specialist knowledge or training to become a governor as schools welcome those who can bring skills and expertise they have developed at work, or who have a good understanding of the community served by the school.

Effective governors do not need educational expertise but do need to be committed to their school, be willing to ask questions and to provide both constructive challenge and support. They also need to be able to work as an enthusiastic member of the governing board team with the aim of raising and maintaining high educational standards for all children.
