The firework display in Leverhulme Park will not be going ahead this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services Delivery, Cllr Adele Warren, said: “We know there will be disappointment but due to the ongoing challenge of coronavirus, it would be extremely irresponsible to hold this event.

“The fireworks attract thousands of people and social distancing would be very difficult.

“We are sorry that we are having to cancel one of our most popular events but the health and wellbeing of our residents has to come first.”
