Library staff in Bolton Library are celebrating after being recognised in this year’s Libraries Connected Awards.

Library national awardThe Libraries Connected Awards recognise the work of library staff who are making a real difference in their communities.

The winners were announced at a glitzy ceremony at the Chesford Grange Hotel, Warwickshire.

Bolton Library took home two awards in the categories: Reading (Caroline Hall) and Health and Wellbeing (Charlotte Higham).

Caroline won the Reading Category for her work strengthening early years literacy through high-quality storytelling and staff training, ensuring reading and confidence-building are central to the library’s offer for young children.

Charlotte won the Health and Wellbeing Category for her work securing a Libraries Connected Microgrant to introduce an interactive Rainbow Table, enhancing support for people living with dementia through engaging activities that promote wellbeing and cognitive stimulation.

Caroline and Charlotte were recognised alongside bestselling author Kate Mosse CBE, who was named Public Library Champion 2026 for her work supporting reading and libraries.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Culture, Cllr Debbie Newall, said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to see two of our fantastic library staff recognised at the Libraries Connected Awards.

“These achievements in both reading and health and wellbeing reflect the vital role our libraries play at the heart of our communities, supporting people to learn, connect, and stay well.

“Bolton’s libraries continue to go from strength to strength, with innovative programmes and a strong focus on inclusion, digital access, and community wellbeing.

“It’s especially encouraging to see our dedicated staff celebrated on a national stage, building on the growing recognition our service has received in recent years.”
