On Thursday, November 6, Muhammad Ammaar and Shalom Wondiam, the Bolton Youth Members of Parliament, had a remarkable opportunity to represent the young people of Bolton at the House of Commons.
The debates covered significant motions, including Housing, Health, Employment, Crime, and Sustainability. They were treated to a series of inspiring speeches from other MYPs, who passionately addressed these pressing issues.
Shalom had the privilege of speaking on the Sustainability motion, where she discussed climate change, its effects on our environment and communities, and the urgent actions needed to ensure a thriving planet for future generations.
Shalom said: “Overall, it was fantastic to network with other young people, and to see the potential we all have to make real change."
"Going to the UK Youth Parliament House of Commons Sitting once again was a wonderful experience. It was fantastic to see all the other MYPs one final time at a large event.
Muhammad said: “I really enjoyed the experience, listening to other young people who are all so passionate about making a difference”.
Cllr Martin Donaghy, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said:
“It’s a fantastic experience for our Youth MPs to be able to go to the House of Commons and get a taster of what life is like for a working MP.
I’m pleased they enjoyed their time there and wish them well in their future and political life.”
Youth MPs are elected by young people every two years and provide opportunities for young people to bring about social change through meaningful representation and campaigning.
