Visit Bolton's new Insider’s Handbook launches - a free, curated tourism guide celebrating the very best of Bolton’s attractions, experiences and hidden gems.

The guide spotlights dozens of independent businesses in Bolton, with insider tips on where to eat, drink, shop, stay and explore. Each of Bolton’s district centres also features in dedicated sections, showcasing the unique character of every area of the borough.
The Insider’s Handbook is a key element of Bolton’s Visitor Economy Strategy, which launched last year and sets out the council’s ambition to strengthen the town’s profile as an attractive visitor destination.
An official launch event - held on Monday 27 October at newly-renovated The Albert - brought together over 70 representatives from across Bolton’s tourism, culture and hospitality sectors to celebrate the release and hear more about the council’s vision for the town’s visitor economy.
Councillor Nadeem Ayub, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Culture, said:
“This guide is for the curious visitor, the proud local, and anyone who wants to experience the town through the eyes of those who know it best.
"From the stunning countryside walks to the buzzing cultural spots, from independent cafés to historic landmarks, the Insider’s Handbook is packed with recommendations that reflect the heart and soul of our town.
“It’s about showcasing Bolton not just as a destination, but as an experience.
“We’re immensely proud of our town and hope that this guide will inspire more people to explore, return, and support our local businesses.”
During 2024/2025, Bolton has proudly held the title of Greater Manchester Town of Culture, hosting a vibrant programme of events and activities.
Highlights such as the Bolton Food and Drink Festival, the IRONMAN 70.3 weekend, and the Bolton International Film Festival all feature prominently in the handbook - encouraging visitors to return for these flagship events again next year.
Over the next three years, the town will welcome an ambitious calendar of sport, comedy, art, dance, and music events designed to boost the local economy and enrich community life.
Bolton’s cultural calendar already features a range of seasonal highlights, including the Put Big Light On art trail showcasing world-class installations, and a packed programme of pantomimes and festive performances across Bolton’s theatres.
