Bolton town centre came alive today as thousands of visitors flocked to the opening day of the 20th anniversary Bolton Food and Drink Festival – the biggest event of its kind in the UK.

Bolton Food and Drink Festival 2025 first dayWith more than 180 stalls spilling across the streets, the atmosphere was electric as food lovers explored everything from sizzling BBQ to sweet treats and cuisine from around the world.

Crowds gathered early to enjoy the wide-ranging offering, which included smoked brisket and pulled pork, freshly baked pastel de natas, Greek souvlaki, artisan ice cream, and authentic Chinese dishes, to name but a few.

Big names were also front and centre on the first day, with acclaimed TV chef Michael Caines taking to the outdoor live chef stage for a free live cookery demonstration.

The theatre-style demos proved a major draw, offering inspiration and entertainment for families, budding chefs, and seasoned foodies alike.

And with a packed programme of live entertainment, performances and street theatre, the message on day one of the festival was clear: Bolton is born to perform.

Michael Caines said: “It’s an incredible event, and even more special this year as we celebrate 20 years of food and drink in Bolton.

“I encourage everyone to get down here to savour the smells and enjoy the flavours this bank holiday weekend.”

The festival, renowned for blending incredible food with world-class talent, also welcomed some of the UK’s most followed food content creators.

Craig Harker, the man behind TikTok channel, Dad Loves Food, said:

“There are so many vendors here – different flavours and cuisines – each one specialising in the dish they are selling.

“There’s food here that I’ve never seen at any other food festivals – there’s been loads of standout ones including the brisket at The Texas BBQ Guys and the Hash Brown Shack.

“I’m here reviewing food today, but it is definitely an event that I’ll bring my family – I’d highly recommend it to anyone.”

Councillor Nick Peel, Leader of Bolton Council, said:

“What an incredible start to the 20th anniversary of Bolton Food and Drink Festival.

“The energy in the town centre has been fantastic, with thousands of people sampling the amazing food and enjoying the entertainment.

“We’ve even more big names and family activities still to come, so I’d encourage everyone to come down and be part of this brilliant weekend.”
