Bolton Council aims to bring its facilities and estates services back in house, as the authority continues to review the way it manages its buildings and other property assets.

The council entered a partnership with Robertson Facilities Management in May 2019, to manage and maintain 379 local authority buildings and other assets.

The contract has since been extended on two occasions, reflecting a successful working relationship between the council and Robertson Facilities Management.

However, with the current contract period coming to an end in May 2025, the council has taken the opportunity to explore different ways of managing its estate.

Reflecting changes in priorities, budgets and the way public buildings are used, the council has now accepted the proposal to bring the facilities and estates management services back in house.

The move will allow the council to be more responsive to demand, and could potentially boost the local economy by creating jobs, work, and opportunities for Bolton residents and businesses.

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said:

“We would like to thank Robertson Facilities Management for their outstanding work, helping to keep our buildings well maintained and safe for Bolton residents, businesses and visitors to the borough.

“However, it is right that we keep all contracts under regular review, and we feel now is the right time to bring this service back in house.

“This move will allow us to be more responsive to changes in the way we use our public buildings and other council-owned property and could also deliver a potential boost to the local economy.”

Robertson Facilities Management, said:

“We continue to enjoy a close working relationship with the council, and remain committed to providing first class services and support through to the Facilities Management contract end in May 2025.”
