The NHS is 73-years-old today and July 5 has been declared as the first “NHS, Social Care and Frontline Workers” Day.

Bolton Council is joining the celebrations by flying a brand-new flag from the town hall.

The rainbow coloured banner, emblazoned with the message “we thank you”, will fly for the next seven days.

Elsewhere, The Queen confirmed the NHS will be awarded the George Cross in recognition of the “courage, compassion and dedication” shown by its doctors, nurses and staff.

Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Linda Thomas, said:

“Bolton is proud to support our NHS staff, frontline workers and carers.

“We have always been grateful for their incredible work but the last 18 months have shown just how vital they are.

“We owe them a massive debt of gratitude for their dedication and selflessness.

“The flag will fly for the next week in recognition of everything they have done and continue to do for everyone in Bolton.”
