Renting an allotment
If you enjoy being outdoors and are ready to take on a rewarding challenge, an allotment could be just right for you. While maintaining a plot can be physically demanding at times, the satisfaction of growing your own fruit and vegetables makes the effort worthwhile.
Bolton has 35 allotment sites across the borough, providing over 900 valuable growing plots for local residents. Some sites are managed directly by the Council, while many are supported by voluntary Allotment Associations or Societies who work in partnership with us to help oversee and maintain their sites. These groups play an important role in fostering a strong sense of community and supporting plot holders throughout the year.
The allotment application form is currently under construction. Please check back soon.
Pricing
Allotment rent and fees are charged annually in advance; our allotment year runs from 1 November to 31 October.
We usually invoice in October each year:
- the rent you pay will depend on the size of your plot
- the current charge (2025/2026) is 24p per sqm
- if a tenancy ends part way through a year, any rent paid for that year is not refunded.
Notice of any changes will be published here on our website.
