What is it?

You need to apply for a licence from the council if you want to place tables, chairs or other temporary furniture on the pavement.

Street cafés are becoming a fashionable part of town centre life, adding to the colour and atmosphere and offering a popular service for residents and visitors alike. The pedestrianised areas in particular lend themselves to eating and drinking al fresco in the warmer weather and the council is keen to encourage good quality, properly designed street cafés which contribute to the relaxing and sociable mood of the town.

For further information we have produced a guidance document.
