Bolton’s new Mayor will process through the town centre as part of the Civic Sunday celebrations this Sunday, May 19.

Cllr Mayor Hilary FaircloughThe traditional event usually attracts hundreds of participants and well-wishers as the new incumbent is welcomed to the role.

This year’s first citizen is Councillor Hilary Fairclough who has received the chains of office from former Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Elaine Sherrington.

On Civic Sunday, she will walk out onto the town hall steps at around 2.30pm - accompanied by other civic dignitaries - to meet the parade.

The parade will be commanded by the 216 Battery RA (V), our local TA Unit, who will be joined by other groups and organisations.

The procession will set off from Victoria Square at 2.30pm and make its way to Bolton Parish Church via Hotel Street, Mealhouse Lane, Deansgate and Churchgate.

This will be followed by a church service at 3pm.

Cllr Fairclough said: “I am very proud to take on the role as Bolton Mayor and I am greatly looking forward to taking part in civic Sunday.

“I would love for as many people as possible to come along for what I’m sure will be a special occasion.”
