Residents and businesses are invited to have their say on proposed changes to the local Gambling Policy.
Under the Gambling Act 2005, Bolton Council is responsible for taking the lead on regulating gambling within the borough.
The council issues licences and permits to authorise legal and responsible gambling and will act if the requirements of the Gambling Act 2005 are not met.
The proposed key changes in Bolton are around gambling-related harm and Public Health, the location of premises, the local risk assessments, the local area profile, and minor changes to reflect the Greater Manchester Statement of Principles.
Commercial gambling takes place in venues like casinos, betting shops, bingo halls and arcades. Gaming machines, placing bets, and playing bingo games are all classed as commercial gambling.
Bolton Council is responsible for granting premises licences to authorise these types of activities.
Cllr Hamid Khurram, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member with responsibility for licencing, said,
“It’s important we give residents and businesses the opportunity to comment on any proposed changes to a policy.
“I encourage everyone within an interest in this area to take part in the consultation.”
The consultation can be completed by email until Wednesday 31 December.
