Later in the week, a Remembrance Sunday Service and march past will take place on November 9 in Victoria Square, beginning at 10:56am.

Maroons will be fired to mark the start and end of the two-minute silence.

Local volunteers will be organising remembrance events at war memorials across the borough.

In the lead up to Remembrance Sunday the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal will once again raise vital funds to support ex-servicemen and women, their families, and those currently serving in the Armed Forces.

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr David Chadwick, said:

“This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

“These remembrance events are a vital opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who gave their lives in past conflicts.

“We must also acknowledge those who continue to serve, many of whom still pay the ultimate price in service to others.

“I strongly encourage everyone to support the Royal British Legion by purchasing and wearing a poppy.

“I would also like to extend a warm invitation to all citizens of the borough to join me in honouring this important occasion.”
