People across Bolton are urged to take inspiration from England women’s outstanding achievements in winning the UEFA Women's EURO 2025.

The team’s official homecoming takes place today (Tuesday) with an open-top bus parade and a celebration outside Buckingham Palace.

England’s tournament win in 2022 led to a major increase in interest and participation in the women’s game.

It is hoped that Lionesses retaining the trophy in dramatic fashion will inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to take up sport or other physical activities to improve their health and mental wellbeing.

Cllr Nick Peel, Leader of Bolton Council said:

"On behalf of Bolton, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the England Women’s football team on their fantastic achievement winning the UEFA Women's EURO 2025.

“These talented athletes have not only achieved great things on the pitch but have also become role models for our communities.

“Their performances show what can be achieved with skill, effort and teamwork.”

Cllr Jackie Schofield, Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Public Health and Wellbeing said:

“It’s a historic win that inspires people to get off the sofa and get active, motivating us to explore the ‘lion inside’ to find our hidden talents.

“Taking on a new challenge boosts our mood and keeps us fitter, healthier and happier, so if you want further inspiration then please check out what is available as there is something suitable for all ages and abilities.”
