The Mayor of Bolton has attended a commemorative service to mark the 81st Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

A wreath laying ceremony was held at Victoria Square yesterday to pay tribute to lives lost or affected during the air attack on Britain in the summer and autumn of 1940.  The service was conducted by Revd Ian Hepburn of Bolton Parish Church and included representatives from the RAF.

Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Linda Thomas said: “The annual Battle of Britain service is a poignant day where we remember all the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

“I am proud to observe this commemoration on Victoria Square and meet and greet our Veterans in person after such a tough time for them during the pandemic.”
