Library customers in Farnworth and Horwich will be able to visit pop-up libraries whilst both buildings are closed temporarily.

Horwich Library requires immediate repairs to its roof and customers will be able to borrow books and pick up reservations as normal at the pop-up service.

Children can also join in summer holiday activities, sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge and collect their stickers, certificate, and a medal.

The pop-up library is located at Horwich Community Centre, Beaumont Rd, BL6 7BG and open on:

  • Mondays - 9am - 12pm
  • Tuesdays - 10am - 4pm
  • Fridays - 9am - 12pm

At the same time, building work starts on Monday 26 July at Farnworth library where the Library and Museum Service is developing a partnership with Bolton College to deliver a community learning programme.

Members of the public will be able to get advice, information and enrol on college courses at the new centre.

These include English, Maths, Digital Skills for Beginners, Bookkeeping, Community Interpreting, Interview Skills and Poetry for Wellbeing.

Primary School Family Learning courses are also available giving parents advice on how to support their children with Maths and English.

The building work to deliver the new community learning centre is due to be completed by September.

In the meantime, the pop-up Farnworth library service is located at 14 Brackley Street, BL4 9DR and open on:

  • Tuesdays - 10am - 4pm
  • Thursdays - 10am - 4pm
  • Saturdays - 10am - 4pm

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member with responsibility for Libraries, Cllr Hilary Fairclough, said:

“Safety is always our primary concern so we’re giving customers in Horwich the best service we can whilst we make immediate repairs to the library roof. 

“At the same time, in Farnworth, we are excited about our new partnership with Bolton College and how residents will be able to study different courses in the new learning centre.”
