The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning over the next few days. Several days of rainfall are expected to affect the region which may lead to flooding in some places.

The council’s emergency plan is in place to deal with any issues that arise.

If it is an immediate emergency with threat to life call 999.

Be prepared in case of flooding.

  • Prepare a flood kit containing essential items and important contact numbers
  • Move valuable items to a safe place
  • Check insurance cover
  • Know how to turn off gas, water, electricity supplies

What to do in the event of a flood:

  • Gather essential items & move family & pets upstairs or to a high place with a means of escape
  • Turn off gas, electricity & water supplies if safe to do so & before water enters your home
  • Check local updates
  • Call 999 if in immediate danger

Council response:

  • Frontline staff are on site in at-risk areas providing support
  • Advice and guidance to prepare homes and mitigate against any potential flooding
  • Staff knocking on doors to check on residents and offer advice on alternative accommodation if needed
  • Flood response teams adhering to COVID safety measures

Highways update:

  • We have received reports of flooding causing minor disruption on the highways network and we continue to monitor the situation closely
  • There are four crews working across the borough to respond to issues as they happen and additional resources added out of hours
  • One of the Kearsley Roundabout subways is closed due to flooding
