Appointment of Independent Person
Bolton Council wishes to appoint an Independent Person.
The Localism Act 2011 places a duty on Bolton Council and Blackrod, Horwich and Westhoughton Town Councils to promote and maintain high standards of conduct for elected and co-opted members. This includes the requirement to have a Code of Conduct with which those members must comply.
The Act requires that the Council adopt arrangements for dealing with complaints of breaches of the Code of Conduct by these Council members. This must include provision for the appointment of at least one Independent Person who will be consulted on the complaints.
To ensure your independence, you must not have been an elected or co-opted member or an officer of any of Bolton Council, Blackrod, Horwich and Westhoughton Town Councils within the last five years, or be a relative or close friend of such a person.
The Independent Person will be paid an annual fee of £547.00
