The Sport and Active Living Service aims to make Bolton a vibrant and healthy place to live and work. This is achieved by providing local opportunities for people to get active, get healthy and get involved thus increasing participation in getting started, staying and succeeding in sport, and physical activity. The provision of a diverse range of accessible sport, health and recreational activities and services helps to achieve this.

Recognised sports

Bolton Council works alongside other agencies such as Bolton Arena, Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Bolton Community Leisure Trust and Bolton Wanderers Community Trust to lead on the borough’s recognised sports.

Recognised sports are those which have been identified by their National Governing Bodies as being a priority in Bolton and that have been agreed locally as being a priority.

We have partnership agreements with the Lancashire Cricket Board (LCB) and England Handball (EHA) where we part fund a co-ordinators in both sports. Chris Highton is the borough’s Cricket Co-ordinator.

All recognised sports have a development group made up of different partners including local clubs and representatives. During these meetings development action plans are completed to ensure individual needs for each sport is addressed. If you would like to attend the development groups please contact AnnMarie Taylor for details of the lead organisation for your sport.
