Shoppers at Bolton Market can pick up something a little different on their next visit, thanks to a new gallery showcasing work by promising local artists.
The market is now home to a permanent exhibition displaying artworks by the students at Bolton Sixth Form College.
The new feature offers talented artists the chance to have their creations viewed by the public and all the pieces on display are available to buy.
The gallery includes work by BTEC and A Level students at the college, studying subjects including Graphic Design, Photography, Art and Design.
There are currently around 30 students involved, and the college will be replacing and updating the display on a regular basis.
Debbie Wynne, Head of Art and Design at Bolton Sixth Form College, said:
“The team at Bolton Market have been incredibly supportive of our students over the years, helping them to run pop up market stalls at the indoor market to sell their work.
“Now this permanent exhibition will be a space to celebrate our students’ work.
“It will be a place where they can connect with Bolton and sell their work, as they begin their journeys as young creatives, making a living by doing what they love.
“Without the ongoing support from Bolton Market, this would not have happened.
“Myself and our students could not be happier with the space and we look forward to creating many more exhibitions for the people and visitors of Bolton to enjoy.”
Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Cllr Adele Warren, said:
“This a great example of how we can collaborate with our partners in the community to support young people in Bolton to achieve their ambitions.
“There are some truly impressive works on display and I’d urge everyone to take a look and see for themselves what incredible young artists we have here in Bolton.
“All the art on display is for sale. So not only is this a chance to support local talent, but you might be buying an early work by a future Turner Prize winner.”
Bolton Market is open every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
