And a steady stream of shoppers also visited the market on Sunday (December 23) and Christmas Eve to snap up festive food and last minute treats.

The popular award-winning market, on Ashburner St, is known for its range of fresh, quality produce.

By the time families are settling down to their dinner on Christmas Day, stallholders are predicted to have sold up to 8,000 turkeys and 4,000 mince pies.

The market is home to nine stalls selling turkeys, eight greengrocers, two cheese stalls, a florist, and a card shop.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Cllr Nick Peel, said: “The market is always busy over Christmas and this year has been no exception.

“It’s fantastic to hear traders reporting the best footfall for 25 years, with some traders’ takings exceeding all their expectations.

“The market has welcomed thousands of shoppers over the weekend and on Christmas Eve.

“The choice and quality of the foods is unbeatable and everything you need from sprouts to turkeys is available at Bolton Market – all under one roof.”

Market Manager, Peter Entwistle, added: “It was great to see so many shoppers supporting our traders in the run-up to Christmas and I would like to thank each and every one of them on behalf of our traders for that support.

“Our traders cannot be beaten on quality, service or variety. I hope everyone continues to shop local and support the traders in the coming new year.

“Best wishes from all the traders at Bolton Market.”

The market will reopen December 27. Follow @BoltonMarkets on Twitter and Facebook.
