Residents are invited to come together this November to remember and pay tribute to those who have served and sacrificed in conflicts past and present through a programme of Remembrance events
The commemorations begin with the annual Concert of Remembrance at the Albert Halls on Thursday 5 November.
The evening will feature performances from the Shree Mukta Jeevan Swamibapa Pipe Band, Theatre Dance Studios, Phoenix Knights of Harmony, the Lancashire Artillery Military Band, and the Pipes and Drums of the 103rd Regiment.
The concert will also include a poignant Act of Remembrance led by the Vicar of Bolton, the Reverend Hannah Lane.
Tickets for the Concert of Remembrance cost £10 and are available through the Albert Halls website or by calling the box office on 0161 876 1715. All proceeds will go to Bolton’s Cadet Forces.
Remembrance Sunday will be marked with a civic service in Victoria Square on Sunday 8 November.
The service will begin at 10.57am and will include a two-minute silence at 11am, with the 216 Royal Artillery providing live gunfire to mark the beginning and end of the silence.
The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal is once again raising vital funds to support serving and former members of the Armed Forces and their families. Residents are encouraged to support the appeal by purchasing and wearing a poppy.
The borough will also observe Armistice Day on Wednesday 11 November with a civic service at 11am on the steps of Bolton Town Hall. Led by the Reverend Hannah Lane, the service will include prayers and a two-minute silence, marked by the firing of maroons.
Cllr Mohammed Iqbal, Mayor of Bolton, said:
“Remembrance is an opportunity for us all to come together as a community to honour the courage, service and sacrifice of those who have defended our freedoms.
“These events provide a chance to reflect on the debt we owe to those who gave so much for our country, while also recognising the dedication of those who continue to serve today.
“I encourage residents, families, veterans and visitors to join us in paying their respects and ensuring that the spirit of remembrance continues for future generations.”
