Bowls players can look forward to better games after Bolton Council revealed it is working to improve a number of greens across the town.
Crown greens at eleven clubs are set to get some care and attention now that the current bowls season is over, with a view to them being in tip top condition when next year’s season starts in April.
Each green will be sowed with fresh grass seed, top dressed and fertilised, while cores will be carefully added across the playing surface and filled with sand to aid drainage.
The work is set to be carried out by contractors during the last two weeks in October, with up to £19,000 invested in the improvements.
By maintaining the greens, the council hopes to encourage more people to take part in bowls and stay fit and active.
Only greens maintained by the council will see the work, covering those at:
- Bradford Street Recreational Ground
- Breightmet
- Darbishire Park
- Doe Hey Playing Field
- Egerton Park
- Farnworth Park
- Heywood Park
- Moss Bank Park
- Mytham Park
- Queens Park
- Westhoughton Central Park
Bolton Council Executive Member for Climate Change and Environment, Cllr Robert Morrisey, said:
“Bowls has long been part of the fabric of life in Bolton and I hope that by ensuring that our greens are in great condition, we will see this much-loved traditional pastime flourish into the future.
“Not only is bowls a great sport, it is also an excellent way to meet friends and stay fit and healthy.”
