Since the launch of the film office in October 2025 to the end of April 2026, there have been 27 different productions using Bolton as a filming location.

These have ranged from student films and short films to high-end TV dramas filming throughout the borough.

During the 2025-26 financial year, filming contributed an estimated £1.2 million to the local economy, including employment, businesses, retail, and supply chains.

The film office has been working to promote Bolton as a viable filming destination by attending and sponsoring key industry events, as well as local outreach to businesses, schools, colleges, and the university.

In recent months, luxury Bolton clothing brand ‘Represent’ has filmed at The Albert Halls, with The Victoria Hall and Parish Church used as locations for Songs of Praise.

Bolton has earned the nickname “Hollywood of the North”, appearing in productions such as It’s a Sin, Brassic, Coronation StreetPeaky BlindersRidley, Sherwood, and A Gentleman in Moscow, and has featured on all the major broadcasters and platforms.

There have been some equally as exciting projects filmed in Bolton recently, the details of which can’t be publicly shared yet but will feature some prominent Bolton locations. These are due to air later in the year.

Looking to the future, it was recently announced that GMCA will be offering a £10.5m production fund, which will support productions and encourage them to film even more in Greater Manchester.

Bolton Film Office also understands the importance of Screen Tourism, the term coined for visiting real-world locations which feature in films, TV, video games, and other media content; the effects of which support the local economy and connect visitors to local heritage.

In a bid to further put Bolton on the visitor map, Bolton Film Office recently featured in a Screen Tourism magazine which is distributed nationally and internationally.

Cllr Debbie Newall, Executive Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “Bolton has already established itself as a popular filming destination, and we’re proud to celebrate our borough’s identity.

“We continue to grow as a cultural destination, whether that’s through filming and public events, or our greenspaces and public buildings.”

Fiona Fung, Film Office Manager at Bolton Council, said: “It has been an incredibly busy and exciting eight months for the film office – we’ve been building on our ‘Film-Friendly’ reputation, working closely with productions to make their creative vision a reality.

“I’ve been seeking out amazing locations and venues in Bolton, and there is so much more to discover. Bolton is teeming with talent; we’re a creative bunch and it’s true – entertainment is in our DNA! I feel privileged to be a part of the Film Office, and to get to work with so much creativity here in Bolton.

“Our court and cobbles are incredible locations, but Bolton has so much more to offer. We are a town of fantastic diversity and heritage, and I’m keen to show this off.”
