A fundraiser is preparing to go the extra mile for Bolton Hospice, all while staying in the same spot.

Donna Bolton Hospice ChallengeBolton Council’s Donna Cooper will take on an epic charity challenge when she pedals a static bike for 12 hours, from 7am to 7pm on Wednesday October 8th.

Taking place in the foyer of Bolton Town Hall, all money raised by the feat will help fund Bolton Hospice to continue its vital work.

The hospice provides specialist care and support for local people with terminal or life-limiting illnesses, and their families.

Unlike the NHS, it is not fully funded by the government and instead relies on charitable donations.

Donna, who works in the Mayor’s Office, is raising the funds in recognition of the support Bolton Hospice provided to both her mum and gran.

Throughout the day, she will be joined on a second bike by a rotating cast of colleagues from across the council and its various partner organisations.

Among them will be Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Adults and Community Housing, Cllr Sean Fielding.

He said: “Bolton Hospice offers vital support to people when they need it most, and the importance of the services they provide cannot be overstated.

“As patrons of the hospice, Bolton Council is proud to be supporting Donna in her incredible fundraising efforts.”

Donna, who is a regular IRONMAN competitor, said: “Every stroke of the pedal will be in honour of the incredible care my family received.

“And every penny I raise will help Bolton Hospice continue to provide comfort, dignity and support to other local families going through the toughest of times.”

Emma Mitson, Corporate and Community Lead at Bolton Hospice:

“We are thrilled that Donna is choosing to raise vital funds for Bolton Hospice by taking on a 12-hour cycle challenge.

“Not only is the cycle a fabulous piece of fundraising, completing it in Bolton Town Hall itself is a great way to raise awareness of the hospice in our community.

“As a local charity, we rely on supporters like Donna to help us continue caring for local people facing life-limiting illnesses, so would like to say a huge thank you and good luck to her.”

Donations can be made online, or on the day of the challenge by cash or card payment.
