Family fun days mark the launch of two new community facilities, as Bolton’s Family Hub programme continues to grow.

Family Hub OldhamOldhams Family Hub Family fun day was on September 13, with Harvey’s set to launch on October 18, bringing the overall total to eight across the borough.

The service is specifically for families with children aged up to 19-years-old, and up to 25 years for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Families are encouraged to drop in and explore the wide range of help and support available throughout their parenting life.

At the Family fundays, families are encouraged to try out the services on offer, and to chat with staff and health professionals about the support available to them and understand the activities that will be delivered in their community.

This includes advice on how to cope with the rising cost of living, including energy saving tips, managing debts, and welfare and housing support.

Those attending can also pick up free tooth brushing packs, feeder cups, enter a prize raffle, and enjoy the free refreshments on offer.

Meanwhile children are entertained with indoor and outdoor activities like face painting and storytelling.

The hubs also demonstrate the broader support available including:

•                        Activities for parents and children to play and learn together

•                        Range or parenting support including antenatal, well-baby clinics, infant feeding, and oral health support

•                        Parent health and wellbeing support with free stop smoking programmes, and recovery group sessions

•                        Free data SIMS to access the internet and a world of new digital opportunities

Joining local families at the Oldhams opening event were Bolton Council’s Leader Cllr Nick Peel and other councillors including Martin Donaghy, Jackie Schofield and Hilary Fairclough,  plus senior management and staff at the Family Hubs.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Martin Donaghy, said:

“As more Family Hubs open across Bolton, young families can get all the help and support they need in their local area.

“This particularly benefits new and expectant parents, as they can learn more about how best to nurture their children to live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives.

“Everyone is warmly welcomed, and the centres are a fantastic place for young families to explore the joys of parenthood in a safe and supportive environment.

“I’d urge anyone to drop-in and have a chat and find out what is on offer.”

Bolton’s Family Hubs are delivered in partnership by Bolton Council, Greater Manchester Mental Health and Bolton NHS Foundation Trusts, Bolton Together, Bolton Community and Voluntary Service and other community organisations.

The details of all the services available are listed in the ‘Guide to service & Activities for families in Bolton’.
