A commemorative stone to honour Bolton legend Fred Dibnah has been restored.

FredThe tile was cracked and damaged some months ago and a local company kindly offered to replace it free of charge.

Hardscape, manufacturers of paving tiles, have created a new tile which has now been installed by the council’s highways team.

The memorial to the renowned steeplejack Fred Dibnah is on Churchgate in the town centre.

Cllr Hamid Khurram, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Highways, said:

“The tile is a well-recognised piece in our town centre and its great this important tribute to a local legend has been restored.

“Thank you to Hardscape for their generosity.”

A spokesperson for Hardscape said:

“The Fred Dibnah stone is a part of Bolton history but had long seen better days, so with Hardscape Surfaces being a local firm specialising in public realm artwork, we knew we had to step in and take action.

“We’re proud to have supplied, at no cost to the residents of Bolton, a beautiful recreation of the original paving stone, that will last for many years to come.”
