Queens park droneThe prestigious Green Flag Award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces, and the ninth time Queens Park has been awarded.

The team have been working particularly hard this last 12 months and completed several improvements to the park.

These include installation of new litter bins and the park’s first duck feeders, new planting, repairs to signage and benches and tree maintenance.

A new sensory garden is also currently in progress and expected to be complete by the autumn.

These enhancements are already making a positive impact on the park’s appearance and visitor experience and approximately £100,000 has been secured for further developments.

Further planned works include reinstating the historic fountain and additional improvements to the children’s playground area.

In further success for Bolton’s green spaces, the Friends of Longsight Park are celebrating after receiving a sixth Green Flag Community Award for Longsight Park and a Community Green Flag for the first time, with highest score achievable, for The Millenium Wood, opposite the main entrance to Longsight Park.

Cllr Richard Silvester, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment, said:

“Everyone involved with Queens Park has worked hard to maintain high standards and achieve this Green Flag Award.

“The most recent projects carried out and future works planned will continue to support us in creating a welcoming space for the community.
