Flagship parks and children’s play areas across Bolton are set to benefit from a £600,000 investment.

Queens parkImprovements will be made in parks and play areas following amendments to Bolton Council’s budget for 2024-25.

A programme of works to update and improve play areas will take place in three of the borough’s major parks - Moss Bank Park, Queens Park and Moses Gate Country Park.

Play areas in the major parks have the highest footfall and need investment to update them and prevent any further deterioration.

Works will include the replacement of wooden parts that are starting to rot, cleaning and replacement of sand in sandpits over ten years old, and cleaning and repainting of equipment.

Aging equipment, like the pirate ship in Moss Bank Park, will be replaced.

The list of work includes:

  • Improvements in Queens Park to support a bid for Green Flag status, including drainage repairs, creation of a sensory garden and repairs to the fountain
  • Further improvements to the Moss Bank Park rock garden
  • Repairs and refurbishment to the entry road to Moses Gate and the lakeside area, which is falling into disrepair.

Cllr Richard Silvester, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said:

“This investment is great news for our major parks and play areas and will bring about some much-needed improvements to benefit residents and visitors alike.”
