Anyone looking to explore a new career, get back into employment, education, training or improve their wellbeing is invited to Bolton’s Learning and Skills Fair

Anyone looking to explore a new career, get back into employment, education, training or improve their wellbeing is invited to Bolton’s Learning and Skills Fair in Victoria Square, 10am to 2pm on Thursday, 19 June.

Visitors can talk to employers offering local jobs, and providers offering training, education and apprenticeship opportunities for young people and adults.

Friendly helpers are on hand to guide people through what’s on offer, including advice on digital skills, business start-ups, health and wellbeing, housing, benefits and money advice.

This year’s event, themed on ‘Better Health, Better Jobs and Better Futures’, also supports those wanting to return to work following a prolonged health condition who may worry about getting back into work.

Some employers attending will be promoting job vacancies, with representatives on hand to talk to anyone interested in working for them.

There’s also careers guidance and CV writing advice available, along with tips to improve confidence in interviews.

Local colleges, education and training providers are also at the event,  promoting the different courses they have on offer and advising on how to apply for the right courses that support the knowledge and skills required for certain careers.

Building self-confidence is important when applying for work, particularly for anyone returning to work after a long absence because of a health condition, and advisors are on hand to listen to their concerns and provided guidance, including information they and their prospective employers may need about accessing assistive technology and workplace adaptations.

With tighter restrictions on eligibility for welfare payments, broader advice and support is available to address positive mental health, finances, and personal development with upskilling opportunities and free digital skills training if required.

Employees and organisations attending the learning and skills fair include Bolton College, Bolton Council, Bolton CVS, Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, GM Mental Health, Diamond North West, Bolton at Home and many more.

Cllr Akhtar Zaman, Deputy Leader at Bolton Council said:

“Bolton’s Learning and Skills Fair just gets better year after year and appeals to more people each time.”

“Everyone is invited as usual, but for the first time specific support is offered to those wishing to return to work after a lengthy absence, with help to boost their confidence, skills and prospects of gaining meaningful work.

“We all need a purpose in life as it helps us maintain positive mental health, and good employment really can help us live happier and healthier lives for longer.

“So if you are looking for a job or career change please come along to the event and see the opportunities available that represent Bolton at its best.”

No booking required, simply turn up with family and friends for a warm welcome.
