Parents and carers are being urged to make sure their children can take part in one of Bolton’s biggest sporting events.

IRONKIDS

Bolton’s famous IRONKIDS takes place on Saturday, June 7 and most places are already sold out so be quick.

Two other events on the same weekend, Night Run and IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton, are already fully booked.

Bolton’s IRONKIDS is the biggest in the world, with up to 5,000 children and young people expected to join in this year.

It means that as many as 8,500 people will take part in three exciting events across the weekend from Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8.

For many families, IRONKIDS has become part of growing up in Bolton, with over 42,000 taking part over the last 13 years.

The town centre route includes a fabulous red-carpet finish in Victoria Square.

Children aged three to five take on a 500m run, six to ten-year olds a 1km run, and 11- to 15-year-olds a 1.5km run.

Some children who started by doing IRONKIDS have even gone on to compete in the IRONMAN 70.3 event as adults.

There will be plenty to keep children and the whole family entertained before and after the event, with crafts, face painting and a climbing wall on offer at the Family Zone in Elizabeth Park and Bolton Market Food Hall.

The council is also urging people to check their travel plans for IRONMAN 70.3 weekend.

The bike route for the triathlon on Sunday, June 8, will require temporary road closures near Pennington Flash, into Bolton along Atherleigh Way, North Road and Chew Moor Road, and along Chorley New Road between the town centre and Horwich.

Full details are available on the IRONMAN website.

Bolton Council's Executive Cabinet Member for Culture, Cllr Nadeem Ayub, said:

“IRONKIDS Bolton is an incredibly special event for the town and its children.

“They love being part of the excitement of IRONMAN weekend and being cheered on by the crowd towards the finish line in front of the town hall.

“It’s a great way to get children into the habit of being fit and active, and I encourage parents and carers to make sure they can enjoy this fabulous day.”
