Disposable vapes will be banned in the UK from 1 June 2025.

It will be illegal to sell, supply or possess disposable (single use) vapes.

This will apply to all retailers, including high street and online, as well as healthcare and stop smoking services.

From this date, any vapes legally on sale in Britain must be rechargeable, refillable, and have a coil that can be easily replaced. Any vape which does not meet these standards, for example a vape that is rechargeable but not refillable, will be illegal.

The change in law is part of wider efforts to tackle youth vaping and reduce environmental waste.

Businesses are being reminded to prepare in advance to remain compliant.

Business owners must:

  • Remove banned stock. Any single use vapes found on business premises (including stock rooms) will be considered for sale and will be seized by trading standards officers.
  • Inform and educate all company employees about the ban, to prevent accidental sales.

Cllr Hamid Khurram, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, said:

“By taking proactive steps now, businesses can remain compliant, minimise financial losses, and transition smoothly to selling vaping alternatives.

“Those retailers who continue to sell disposable vapes after the deadline will be breaking the law and risk being fined or even prosecuted.

“I encourage anyone to report the sale of disposable vapes in Bolton after 1 June to trading standards at trading.standards@bolton.gov.uk.”
