The world’s largest Ironkids event, to be held in Bolton next summer, has sold out in record time.
Entries to the popular race opened at 3pm yesterday and at 8.42pm, all 2,500 places had been snapped up.
The race, on July 14, has become a key annual fixture on Bolton’s sporting calendar following its introduction five years ago.
For the last three years, 2,500 children have taken part and the 2018 event will once again be the largest global Ironkids.
The race takes place in the town centre and the main Ironman event – a gruelling 140.6mile triathlon – takes place in and around Bolton the following day.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Youth and Sport, Cllr John Byrne, said: “This is fantastic. Last year the race sold out in 10 days but for all the entries to go in less than six hours is staggering.
“The speed at which it sold out is a real testament to how popular this event has become.
“Youngsters from Bolton and further afield will be competing and the whole event will bring a real boost to Bolton.”
Ironkids UK Race Director, Abi Jones, added: “The response has been overwhelming and reflects the continued success of Ironkids UK and the tremendous support of the local community towards the event. We are already looking forward to race day!”
The race is open to children aged three to 14 with different distances depending on the school year of the child.
Each child will receive an Ironkids t-shirt in their entry pack and a medal after completing their run.
