A spectacular outdoor art experience, which explores the essential role trees play in our lives, is heading to two Bolton venues.
TREES, the latest project by the creative team “Things That Go On Things”, is coming to Smithills Hall on Friday, February 16 and Victoria Square on Saturday, February 17.
Both events run from 4pm to 8pm and will feature a mixture of light-up installations, animation, films, dynamic projections, puppetry, and traditional storytelling.
Visitors will also hear innovative audio recordings based on the electronic outputs of real trees.
The artwork is centred around six tree stumps which begin to glow at dusk before large-scale projections of forests and their canopies appear on surrounding buildings.
The installation works alongside a creative booklet full of activities, stories, and characters to engage the audience.
TREES explores what “we learn from what goes on both above and below the ground…to become a more caring society who look after their neighbours and planet”.
The installation comes just a week after Bolton Council announced plans to plant 12,000 new trees in partnership with local volunteers at City of Trees.
Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Culture, Cllr Nadeem Ayub, said:
“This spectacular installation will be an unforgettable experience for families and visitor of all ages.
“Events like this make the most of our most popular public spaces to create cultural events that are open to all.
“We are committed to making Bolton cleaner and greener, and this art work will remind us all just how important trees are.”
The event is free and no booking is required.
