People in Bolton who look after a family member, loved one, friend, or neighbour are being invited to free events throughout this week to celebrate their hard work and dedication.

Carers’ Week (5-11 June) is an annual campaign to boost the profile of unpaid carers, focusing on the challenges they face and the contribution they make to communities across the UK.

Bolton Carers Support in partnership with Bolton Council, is holding a Carers Information Day on Thursday 8 June. The event will be held in the Cloisters Suite, Holiday Inn from 1.30pm to 6.30pm.

In addition, there will be a Carers Information Stall at Bolton Foundation Hospital from 10am to 2.30pm this week.

Carers are also able to attend tours of the Warburton’s bakery at set times today (Wednesday) and they can get free tickets for performances of Blonde Bombshells at the Octagon Theatre between Friday 9 and Monday 12 June. To book your places, please ring Bolton Carers Support on 01204 363056.

If you look after someone, we encourage you to come along to the events and:

  • Tell us what issues are affecting you;
  • See how we can help you access the right support;
  • Let us know what services and information you would like in your area;
  • Speak to a social worker and other professionals.

Cllr Linda Thomas, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, said:

“2023 is an exciting time here in Bolton with the green light being given to ‘Bolton’s Integrated Partnership All Age Carers’ Strategy 2023-25’.

“Importantly, this was designed with our carers and partners.

“It is estimated there are 25,980 carers in Bolton, and for those they care for, each carer provides vital support.

“I would personally like to thank all carers for everything they do in making Bolton a wonderful place to live.

“Our theme for ‘Carers Week 2023’ is around ‘Recognising and supporting carers in the community’.

“It is all about communities coming together to recognise the large contribution unpaid carers make to society.

“Please pop along to the upcoming events.

“Once again, a massive thank you to all our carers across Bolton.”

It is important that if you are a carer, you take time access the support and advice available to you and take time to look after your own physical and mental welling.
