The leader of Bolton Council joined officers from Greater Manchester Police on a patrol of the town centre.

Op Avro 2023Earlier this month, Cllr Nick Peel joined the team from GMP as they engaged with the community and discussed some of the key policing challenges for the area.

The visit was part of Operation AVRO, a day of action which saw the police and the council work together to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour, and trading standards offences.

In total, 52 arrests were made throughout the day while Bolton Council’s Trading Standards Team led 17 raids, seizing illegal tobacco, nitrous oxide and unregulated vape products.

Cllr Peel said:

“It is essential that the council and the police work closely together to understand and respond to the concerns of the local community.

“It was great to join GMP on patrol, speaking to officers and local residents about their priorities for making our town centre safer.

“Operation AVRO was a great example of this close partnership working, with the council supporting GMP with a number of key projects.

“All our Trading Standards raids were based on information shared by the public, highlighting the vital role residents play in keeping us informed and helping to tackle crime in Bolton.”
