Bolton Council is to strengthen its commitment to tackling environmental crime thanks to a partnership with enforcement company 3GS.

People caught dropping litter and allowing their dogs to foul in public spaces will face on-the-spot fines between £100 and £150 depending upon the type of offence.

Whilst these fines can already be implemented by council officers, the partnership will bring additional resource to clamp down on offenders.

The service will run at no cost to the local taxpayer and is funded by the fixed penalty fines.

Deputy Leader of the council, Cllr Hilary Fairclough said:

“Environmental crime blights our community and costs tax payers thousands of pounds each year.

“The majority of residents take responsibility for their litter but there is a minority who can’t be bothered to take their litter home with them or find a bin.

“I hope this reinforces the message that litter and dog fouling will not be tolerated and those responsible will be held to account.

“The partnership will improve the cleanliness of our streets and reinforces our commitment to a cleaner, greener Bolton.”

Enforcement officers from 3GS will wear body cameras to gather evidence and identify offenders and are being introduced on a six month pilot scheme.
