Bolton Ageing Well Partnership is hosting a celebration to mark the UN International Day for Older Persons and the contribution older people make to our community.

The celebratory event takes place on September 30 from 10am to 3pm in Victoria Square and will include a range of activities anyone can get involved in as well as help and advice from several organisations.

International Day for Older Persons is an annual day which is held on October 1. This year’s theme is ‘resilience and contribution of older women’.

The event will include a hall of fame which will showcase the resilience and contributions made by local older women as nominated by the Bolton community.

There will also be some historical examples of women who have demonstrated resilience and contributed to Bolton. These will all be displayed on a board for everyone to read and images and videos will be played on a screen throughout the event.

There will be yoga and Tai Chi demonstrations for people to join as well as chair-based exercises and other activities to support a range of abilities and mobility.

Partner organisations at the event include Bolton at Home, Age UK and the Money Skills Service. They will be there to provide advice and information including issues around the pension credit and the cost of living.

There will also be specialist staff on hand to discuss support for carers and those caring for a loved one with dementia.

Cllr Susan Baines, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: “This event is a great opportunity to celebrate older people and the vital role they play in our communities.

“It is also a chance for older people to come together, meet new people, try something new and access support and information on matters such as pension credit.”
