The next phase of the £1.8m Horwich town centre flood alleviation scheme is due to start on Monday, September 26 for two weeks.

Due to the narrow width of Winter Hey Lane, a short section of the road from Chorley New Road to Emmett Street must be closed for safety reasons with a diversion in place.

Pedestrian access will be maintained, and businesses will be open as usual.

The scheme aims to reduce the risk of flooding from Pearl Brook, which can impact around 200 properties in the centre of Horwich.

The majority of the work is already taking place in Old Station Park which is expected to finish in December.

Properties near the Chorley New Road and Winter Hey Lane junction are particularly vulnerable to flooding.

To further reduce the risk in this area, the highway drainage system will be upgraded.

The scheme was first announced in August
